And the wrong road our lot chose. …
On election night, as it became clear that Barack Obama had won the election to become the 44th president of the United States, his supporters received an e-mail in their inboxes.
It started like this:
"I'm about to head to Grant Park to talk to everyone gathered there, but I wanted to write to you first. We just made history.
"And I don't want you to forget how we did it….."
With a personal sign off at the end saying "Thank you, Barack", it felt intimate, yet this was a mass e-mail, sent to the millions who had subscribed to Barack Obama's campaign alerts.
It's just one example of how the president-elect has used the Internet to communicate and create a dialogue with supporters. The Obama campaign's effective use of new media played a big part in his success.
His presence on sites such as such as Facebook and Myspace created online communities which organised supporters to register, campaign, and ultimately go out and vote. He also sent out news via text message, using the medium to inform people of his vice-presidential choice.
In an interview before the election, he spoke of how he wanted to continue that conversation into the White House:
"One of the things that I'm excited about is to transfer what we've learned from this campaign in using technology, into government. I mean, there are huge areas where we can open things up, make things more transparent," he said.
In Britain on the other hand, several catastrophic decisions are in train to make big brother a reality in this brave new world. Stupid -writ large, the government is trying to introduce identity cards.
Not just the sort of papers that were required in WW 2 and of the type widely used across Europe to this day but radio frequency coded stuff that give the secret police access to unbelievable stores of information about us.
And as if that wasn't bad enough, the government is intent on controlling the Internet. It is impossible to describe what these bloody fools are engineering and using the same tool that the Chimp used in the USA to steal freedom. A pretence of terrorism to instil fear and servitude.
How can they think we are so stupid?
Are we that stupid?
Once these laws are enacted, we already have done away with Habeas Corpus, the laws of Apartheid South Africa now apply to all colours of British citizens, they will be next to impossible to overturn. What might stymie them is that there is an election pending not too far off and the present fools have made such stupid errors in security that they will have a struggle getting backing.
Once these laws are enacted, whoever gains power will have enough to get drunk on and enough to enforce totalitarianism on us.
I hope that the abuse does not set in before the ideal it seems Obama is looking at takes effect. We must educate our servants, they are it appears, extremely ignorant. Pig ignorant!
I hope it isn't the more likely: Bloody stupid.
