2013

I’ve been meaning to do this for ages. Initially I tried setting it out in Spreadsheet but it was very unwieldy. Then I tried with a word processor but that just got weighted down.

Because I want to see what isn’t happening I have included all magnitude earthquakes down to Mag 6. I have started at the beginning of december and ended at the end of January.

The other thing that should be shown is that the incidence of earthquakes at the demise of a storm is intimately connected.
Maybe a separate chart of consecutive earthquakes that occur adjacent to one another on the list within very close proximities to their epicentres. (the so called aftershocks/foreshocks.)

One last thought on the matter is that the energy values between magnitudes of earthquakes in no real way relates to the actual forces required to create them. All the magnitude tells us is the length of time that the recording machines ran and for what degree of displacement the needles tracked.

I need to compare the amount of tornadoes with the dates for volcanic eruptions but can’t imagine how I’d write that data. So that will have to be an animation of the NWS wind and hail reports charts interspersed with the volcanic stuff. (And I have years of those.)

  1. >Maybe a separate chart of consecutive earthquakes that occur adjacent to one another on the list within very close proximity to their epicentres. (The so called aftershocks/foreshocks.)

I believe that all aftershocks occur at the end of a tropical storm cycle. Hence the likelihood of better understanding the larger quakes will depend on our understanding weather generally. I will probably use the SED archives for this next chart. It houses all quakes from all agencies with no particular bias as far as I can make out. Swiss earthquakes and the local regions are dealt with on a separate web-page.

I am not sure whether or not to incorporate that data on this page or make it another thread.
