It occurred to me this morning that newly interested farmers starting up without previous cultural initiation into the realms of abundance, might benefit from a basic scriptural understanding.

To the many men going into a new business of land management without the expense of having generations of families’ blood and advice available:

You initiation is likely to come loaded with bad advice from governments. In Britain for instance spending silly money on fertiliser and not knowing about basic principles of crop rotation is likely to cost you dearly in the early stages, the infant learning years, that you are least likely to be able to afford to make mistakes.

Deuteronomy 8:1-20

8 “You should be careful to observe every commandment that I am giving you today, so that you may continue living and multiply and go in and take possession of the land about which Jehovah swore to your forefathers. Remember the long road that Jehovah your God made you walk these 40 years in the wilderness, to humble you and to put you to the test so as to know what was in your heart, whether you would keep his commandments or not.  So he humbled you and let you go hungry and fed you with the manna, which neither you had known nor your fathers had known, in order to make you know that man does not live by bread alone but man lives by every expression from Jehovah’s mouth.

The time was about 40 years after they had come out of slavery to the Egyptians. Having wondered in a wilderness for umpteen years, they likely had forgotten the ways of farming that they had brought with them from Abraham’s time and further developed as shepherds and cowboys in the land Pharaoh gave them.

The clothing you wore did not wear out, nor did your feet become swollen these 40 years. You well know in your heart that just as a man corrects his son, Jehovah your God was correcting you.  “Now you must keep the commandments of Jehovah your God by walking in his ways and by fearing him.  For Jehovah your God is bringing you into a good land, a land of streams of water, springs and fountains flowing in the valley plain and in the mountainous region, a land of wheat and barley, of grapevines, fig trees, and pomegranates, a land of olive oil and honey, a land where food will not be scarce and you will lack nothing, a land where the stones contain iron and from its mountains you will mine copper.

Most people today have no idea what the bible is about and even if they do they are so clouded with superstitions and dogma that they have not bothered to learn for themselves the inner meanings of truths it contains,

To start with, very little of the ten commandments are still laws for Christians today. That they are excellent examples is self evident, as anyone who has stolen someone else’s wife can tell you.

The phrases found in this recap serve as an example of the principle of not taking things literally. We do not know what the term copper means. “Mountians of copper” are obviously rich resources of the ore needed to smelt metals. In fact the rich resource would allow them to make steel if the term “copper” is understood to be a reference to a genus of the mineral  copper, that is cobalt, nickel and chromium, etcetera.

Just as the term “mountain” is a generic term for heap of not iron but iron rich ores. Poor grade ores are as common as dirt and very little of naturally found iron oxide or carbonate is good enough to mine or quarry in order to make iron. But in this chapter we might realise if it is true that they were to given a natural resource that would make them as rich as any wealthy nation in this day and age.

We no longer know what the processes used to make Syrian steels that for centuries before the British Raj were famous for the swords of the city of Damascus.

The mines are worked out and the artisans of the old days moved to other parts of Asia.

“When you have eaten and are satisfied, you must praise Jehovah your God for the good land that he has given you.  Be careful not to forget Jehovah your God by failing to keep his commandments, his judicial decisions, and his statutes that I am commanding you today.  When you eat and are satisfied and you build fine houses and dwell in them,  when your herd and your flocks multiply and your silver and gold increase and you have an abundance of everything,  do not let your heart become proud and cause you to forget Jehovah your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery,  who caused you to walk through the great and fearsome wilderness, with poisonous serpents and scorpions and with parched ground that has no water.

Obviously  god is not giving you all of these thing directly, the way that he poured it out onto the path of those ancient people. But he is leaving you an internet resource, pretty nearly free for you to make up your own mind free from government interference; by which you can take full advantage of every good thing that you come across if you are careful to do the things he is asking those long dead recalcitrant ne’er do wells.

He is not blessing uou directly, yet he is allowing you to take over from a people that other people have displaced. it might be a good idea to search to see if there is anything else you scapegraces can get from him for the mere effort of asking him.

He made water flow out of the flinty rock  and fed you with manna in the wilderness, which your fathers had not known, in order to humble you and to put you to the test so as to benefit you in the future.  If you should say in your heart, ‘My own power and the strength of my own hand have produced this wealth for me,’  remember that it is Jehovah your God who gives power to you to make wealth, in order to carry out his covenant that he swore to your forefathers, as it is today.  “If you should ever forget Jehovah your God and you walk after other gods and serve them and bow down to them, I do bear witness against you today that you will surely perish.  Like the nations that Jehovah is destroying before you, that is how you will perish, because you would not listen to the voice of Jehovah your God.

We are working in the time of the Apocalypse when the forur horsemen are roaaming the earth. He is not using thes agents to bring destruction to anyone. We are hell bent on doing that to ourselves. The four horsemen are the mere agency of examination of this generation.

All you have to do to pass their test is not to be one of the rest of the men who are killed by the sword afterwards. By the term killed and rest of the men, you are beng told the deaths of these people is not from Jesus or the angels.

You are being invited like those ancient Israeliis to make yourself rich and prolong you stay in the land. All you have to do is find out what god want mankind to be found doing when his agency makes an examination of what you are doing right now.

Don’t be afraid of failure. You can not learn by success if you are never allowed to taste the feeling of failure too. Once you learn to ask for god to help you, you will prefer the taste of that to failure but that doesn’t mean you will always succeed straight away.

Does it?
